Engine rebuilder/machine shop recommendations in South Bay

Postby nitewing117 » Thu Mar 23, 2017 2:46 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm back in the roadster game. I have a 99 block that needs to be rebuilt. I'll be tearing it down to see why it has low compression, but do you guys have any recommendations on where I can get the block worked on?

Depending on the budget and application I think Andrew (savington) still builds engines http://www.trackspeedengineering.com/Engine/

I used a shop here in Morgan Hill to rebuild my son's head and clean my block.

Thanks for the recs. I'm not really trying to build a performance engine, just trying to refresh a 120k mile block that's been sitting in my parents backyard for the last 9 years. I'll give the morgan hill place a call.

Another option and probably a bit cheaper is Lynn Auto in San Jose. They did my head refresh on my 91 that I have since put a turbo on and have done a number of track days. My friend actually reassembled the valves and springs because we first cleaned the head in an ultrasonic cleaner because he was concerned about grit left over in the head after machining.

We got a good amount of grit out of the head so just know you will need to do extra cleaning before you reassemble the engine.
