Spark plug stripped head

Postby aznpoolpro » Sun Jun 09, 2013 1:20 pm

I was changing my spark plug and noticed that the 1st spark plug was slipping. So I gave a little push on the opposite direction and it would hold so I'm guessing the head of the spark plug is stripped. All the other removed fine. What would be the best way to remove it out without taking the engine head off? My friend suggested a impact wrench but that sounds a little scary.

take the head off, inspect and re-tap if you want to do it correctly.

I'm sorry I don't think I was explaining this correctly I apologize. I have retried to remove the spark plug. So what is happening is feels like the bold on the sparkplug is stripped almost like the Spark plug socket is only touching the rim of the spark plug. I was using the correct socket as it work on cylinders 2, 3, and 4. I put a flashlight in the hole but it doesn't look stripped. but I'm thinking maybe the socket isn't in all the way. I don't know it's kind of hard to explain the situation. I'm located in San Jose. If someone has the time to look at it, it would be great. I know for sure the thread isn't seized.

Could be. Did the socket part of the plug wire break off and stick on the top of the plug? Is there some crap down in the plug well that's keeping the socket from seating on the plug's flats?

How do you know? You can't get the plug out to verify, it could very well be seized in the head.

dumb comment, but check the socket for obstruction? yea you removed the other spark plugs but something may have gotten stuck inside the socket before getting to the stubborn one. check the hole the tip of the plug goes into.

Used a compressor to take all the debris out and used a pick to run around the rim. Nothing is there. I can see straight in and it looks fine to me

try running the car for a while and get it up to temp then try removing the plug. also dont use a spark plug socket just use a regular deep 5/8 socket and confirm that it is on the spark plug flats the right way. i wouldnt ever use a impact gun on a spark plug.

in reverse it probably wouldn't mess up the threads but its something i wouldn't let either of my impact wrenches ever touch.
