The police suggested that most of these incidents are tweakers looking for a joy ride or a trip across town, and that the car would show up a few days later in a street sweeping zone. I'm regularly checking SFMTA for parking tickets.

So far though, no luck.

This happened to me about a dozen years ago. My bmw turned up on 3rd street by SF General filled with a week's worth of chips, cookie wrappers and soda bottles.

GREAT NEWS

Car was recovered in Oakland, mostly complete minus license plates. The thieves also left me an extra spare, an extra battery, and a watch.

Less good news:
The car isn't drive-able and I cannot diagnose the problem. I'm getting really high AFR readings but I don't know if it's a fueling issue, a wideband issue, or something else.

Any thoughts where to take the car? It was towed by J&B towing so I'm right by Oakland coliseum. Gotta tow it somewhere tonight.

GST Motorsports in Hayward?

Really really long tow to Works at Sonoma?

I don't have AAA and don't know yet if I'm going to be out of pocket for this or covered by insurance.

Damn, that is awesome that you got it back. Hope you got it running well again!

When I read the headline I was thinking "someone stole my car!!" Because I have basically the same.

Why am I not surprised it was in Oakland. Two previous cars of mine were also found in that God forsaken city.
Glad it was recovered for you!
