Heheh yup same one from the old coffee meetups ;-) .

S4 is in the shop, almost done with the project but now thinking of going 770s or stick w/ my RS6s and just be happy with 500awhp. I'm sure you will be back into the S4 - just a bigger money pit.

Btw, nice job on your ride.

Small update, got myself a Cobalt short shifter. According to my lame ass memory from the short-throw shifter research I did when I first got the car, the Cobalt shifter is a short-throw shifter, not a short-shaft shifter. Needless to say, when I saw a brand-new one for sale cheap, I jumped on it...Also needless to say, as soon as I pulled out the old shifter and put it side by side to the Cobalt, it was obvious that the Cobalt is indeed a short-shaft shifter, meaning the shift travel is the same, the shaft of the shifter is just shorter..I wanted to kick myself in the ass :banghead: :banghead:

Anyways, what the hey, I've already torn the Cobalt from its original packaging, might as well use it. I was pleasantly surprised at even though shift travel has not decreased by much, if any, the shifts do feel significantly crisper. Also it is definitely easier to get into first. As you know, you have to bring the shifter left, then forward, to get into first. With the Cobalt, that left travel is A LOT shorter. I'm barely moving the shifter left before it engages first gear, pretty nice. Anyhoo, not thoroughly disappointed w/the shifter, I got it for a decent price, and it makes shifting through the turns funner, so ehhh.

So I decided to take the car out for a spin at the local twisties and snapped some pics. All pics were taken by my Android Rezound and then edited w/Photobucket editing software.

dope pics.. i, too, had the same issue with my cobalt short shifter.. i thought the throw was going to be shorter, but that wasn't the case.. i also got it for the sale price, so i can't be too disappointed..

Congrats on the new wheels Hung they look dope! Although I liked how you painted your stock ones white, the black 6UL's make your car look mean bro. Can't wait to see your car in person at the next meet.

Lol yea, I was debating on painting them white again, but since my car isnt exactly show room condition, I figured I'd stay away from white rims for a while.. Especially with the rain coming, they get dirty easy. Yea, the black 6ULs add a rough edge to the car. I need mudguards and lips!!

Nice choice on tires! Are you planning on getting a front lip? Imo, that'd complete the front!

I'm definitely looking in the lips, mud guards, and skirts. I'm gonna go with the R lip. Hmmm Ratsback lips are aggressive looking, but take a little getting used to for me. Let me go look at a bunch of pics and get used to it!

Older cars are so much work... this brings me back to my 1993 325i times and then my 1996 c36 amg. Pieces of shit, lol.

Good work though. Slow and steady does it. When it comes to older cars (read: neverending projects) keeping a steady supply of positive morale is basically the only thing that matters.

So the quarter is finally over, the girlfriend finally leaves me alone after our Reno trip, and I finally have some alone time with the Miata. So some days ago, the AK v1.5 fiberglass trunk came, a quick test fit showed the trunk sitting too high with the driver side corner too sunken into the car and the px side was sitting higher, leaving a gap where I could see into the trunk. Also, without the springs, there was some play after the trunk is latched, this means rattling over bumps.

First, to take care of the driver side corner of the lid being too sunken in, I put a washer in that corner, on the foremost stud. That made the lid sit even all around. Then, I spent some time enlarging the mounting holes for the trunk latch, so it would sit lower. What this does is it allows for the trunk to close "lower" and remove that excess play. Here's a pic of how much I had to file, had to go get a round file, it helped tons.

Image

After an hour of filing, fitting, taking things apart, file some more, fitting some more, this was the result:

As you can see, the px side is still sitting SLIGHTLY higher than the driver side, but there's nothing I can do now, except maybe shaving the lid where the studs mount with the arms for the hinge. Another thought is to wait till summer and on a hot day, leaving some heavy books on the lid, maybe this would slightly alter the shape of the fiberglass?? Just a thought.

I would wait for some heat to help shape it before painting it.. that looks really nice, though.. again with the similar mods.. LOL..
