The never ending fuckery that is this engine build.....

got oil cooler stuff in and all of it was right except the cooler itself was mangled in shipping. i could probably fix it cause it only looks like the mounting tabs are bent but ill see if i can bitch and moan my way into another one. im probably just going to straighten it out and call it good. no time for child's play.

The block is 100% done and waiting the arrival of the cams so it can all be bolted together.

11 days until tune date.

Perhaps a few of us should go explain to Mr. Cam that it would be in his best interest to finish them promptly.

I have a real nice piece of shit shroud "similar" to the one on my car, that with little modification will bolt on over that oil cooler, yours free lol, please take it. You have no choice.

welp. :( I need the damn cams! but its ok this is a nice baseline where we can say the cams made x hp/tq more.

next time i will have a 2.5 inch exhaust and the cams hopefully this motor will wake up.

Image

it does feel faster than before especially up top from 5-6k you feel the power come on hard.

Martin we should race my s4 and miata?

And as always, BIG BIG thanks to a few certain people. Bill for asking me every damn Sunday how progress is coming. Steve Cardelli for helping build this motor with me. Kong for helping install it with me. and Jei at blacktrax for the tune and anyone else i forgot and everyone who had to hear me bitch about this motor build. :belch:

see you guys at mrls!

Ah crap. Based on this new info (and dyno) looks like I'll be coming down solo on Friday/Saturday with a helmet in hand.
We won't talk about how car-sick I get from the passenger side... heck. I'll only need one lap (maybe two) and I'll be ready to hand off the passenger seat to someone else.

There is an over the counter car sick track solution - Meclizine. It's the active ingredient in non-drowsy Dramaine or the absolutely the same big box drugstore house brands.

I am very prone to getting car sick. And I'm an instructor. This could be a problem. However my very first instructor was an MD who got car sick too. He uses over the counter Meclizine. He also said ignore the usage instructions - take as many as it takes to make the sick not happen or go away, unless you get side effects which are usually dry eye.

I take 5 or so first thing in the AM and usually I'm good all day. If I having a bad day (on which I can even make myself car sick driving the car), I'll take more. Never gotten side effects.

Other track car sickness tips that work for me.

- Having something in my stomach is key. Starting the night before and through the weekend I start carbo/protein/fat loading. A big breakfast especially.

- Staying hydrated. I drink a bunch of water continuously.

- I snack to keep stomach working on something and blood sugar up

- If I get even a hint of sick I come in, unless I'm trying to hang on for the sake of the student. Then drop a couple more Meclizines, a cookie and a not-diet Pepsi and usually good to go.

Hope this helps - see you at Laguna.

Bill,
Thank you for the info!

I'll give it a shot tomorrow from the passenger seat at Laguna.

Dramamine just leaves me in a perpetual state of nausea... so I usually just let nature take it's course and then I'm good for another round of motion...

I used to amaze my dive instructor... he'd never seen anyone dive with enthusiasm after getting sea sick. I was just happy to be off the boat!

sooo most of you who saw me at MRLS know what happened..

story goes like this.

After installing the oil cooler i started to have oil pressure issues. so i removed the cooler thinking it was just a pressure drop from the cooler. Fast forward 2 days later to MRLS

So first session out oil pressure wouldn't rise above 30psi after 3k and once i got into the padock there was ZERO pressure at idle. borrowed a oil pressure sender to verify it wasn't the sender or gauge. it wasn't.. car didn't see anymore track time as it wasn't worth grenading the engine over a few hot laps. limped it home kept it above 1500 rpm and below 4k

im 99% sure its a stuck oil pressure relief valve. There are only 2 things i can think of that would cause such a pressure drop in a still running bp and its a stuck relief valve or issues with the piston squirters/plugs. i happen to know that i red locktited my squirter plugs in and tightened the hell out of them.

I yanked off a few cam caps and it looks like the head and cams are ok so i think its safe to assume the bottom end is ok. New pump on the way,,, :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Phil i hope you enjoyed the ride!

So glad to hear you a) made it home ok and b) seemed to have avoided any damage from the low oil pressure.

WHAMO! just felt like saying that..

Back at it again!

yanked the motor out and changed the oil pump, it sucked but its done. upgraded to a high flow pump this time. im seeing 30 psi at idle now! i think i need thinner oil. it also goes above 30psi now! so clearly a pump issue forsure.

I took apart the old pump to see what the deal was. I didnt find anything conclusive to be honest. ill just say it was a sticking relief valve at temp.

and because i like you guys so much here is a quick vid we snapped once we were done (not sure if this is gonna work)
