Hi all I bought this 92 Miata about 3 months ago as a commuter, but now it seems like it is quickly becoming a project build. I guess my goal is a clean retro look, that is cumfy and fun to hit the back roads with. It will also be my DD, in good weather,to keep the miles low on my new WRX; while saving some gas money.

when i got the car it was completely stock down to the daisy rims.
Image

The first thing I needed was new tire, so i decided to do rims and tires off CL, and found some 14inch BBS with good tires from a member here. Then later that week my new hard dog roll bar came in. After 6 hours of work on a hot summer day the car was starting too look a lot less stock

next went in my new EZ street coils, and I rebuilt the front end with new ball joints and tie rods. The car handles so much better and takes the harsh streets of SF like a champ. It took me all of the extended labor day weekend to do this install, maybe too much beer on Saturday slowed me down a bit. I also sprayed the BBS wheels black and added some ebay orange lugs, and installed new rotors and brake lines while I was at it.
The biggest problem with the install was when i broke the old rusted bolt that attached the lower control arm to the ball joint and couldn't find it anywhere. thanks to sydpeter and a quick 2 hour drive I was able to get the car back together and to an alignment shop before work on Tuesday. Next time i do a suspension rebuild on a 20 year old car i will go ahead and get some new hardware, just FYI.

next I am going to hunt me down a hardtop and i have some FM frame rails coming in to stiffen up the car a bit more.

Looks good. I was going to say needs moar low but that looks very comfortable for SF/Bay area roads. Hoping to pick me up a set of those soon as well.

thanks all, I think I will go about an inch lower but i wanted the springs to settle before I lowered it anymore, I also think I will roll the fenders and do some 20mm spacers.
Looks like I am getting my black hardtop today, I'll get some nicer pics up this weekend.

Took some quick pics after I cleaned up and installed my new hardtop. The HT cleaned up very nice with some clay bar and I also removed the old tint. Also added some locks to the HT, dont wanna be another BA stolen HT thread. For sure i am getting more compliments and head turns with the black HT.
Oh yeah, I just ordered the g-wing last week when it was on sale, so that should come in the mail soon.
And yes i still need to lower it a bit, especially in the front, its kinda got that saggy butt look right now. I'll probably do this and get another alignment this week sometime...

diggin' the black and smurf combo. keep it up!

How do you like your Megans?
I just put my Megan EZ Streets on 2 weeks ago and I have about 800 miles on them which half of it was driving up and down 680. Met every expectation for the amount I paid for them even with the "conservative" spring rates.
This is how she sits right now.

^^^ that looks good, did you roll your fenders at that hight, or getting any rubbing?
I love the coilovers. They are super smooth even on bad roads, but still gave the car so much added control, and have them set 4 clicks back from all the way soft.
I cant believe a $600 coil over could perform this well; I just hope they dont fall apart, but they seem well built.

Thanks man it's not perfect once you're up close on it. It has its small DD battle scars here and there haha. Nope I don't have rubbing at that height and I haven't rolled my fenders yet. I set it at that height and got an Icehawk alignment done.
yeah i feel the same as you. Coming from pretty much stock (KYB gr-2's with stock springs) to the ez streets was the best upgrade on a budget that was worth every penny. Nah I don't think they will fall apart unless the nuts weren't torqued on properly from the factory but i check that before i put them on. From Day 1 I've had the dampening set 5 clicks from full stiff (10) all around. Lovin' the firm ride and the firm, planted handling through the twisties.

Where'd you get Megan's for $600?.. I thought those run $700-$800.

got some new update on the car.
Over the last few weeks I installed an OBX gas cap cover, a project g-wing hardtop wing, some FM toe hooks that I painted bright orange, and a wink rear view mirror.
Still sitting in my garage is my FM frail rail supports that I haven't had the time to install; also on the way is a new front lip.
I'll get some daytime pics on here as soon as I get around to installing the lip if it comes this week..
here are some parking garage pic of the new toys

new update to my little project roadster over the long holiday weekend
Also got an i phone 4s so my pics should be looking a bit better.
1st off got a no front license plate ticket a few weeks ago, so i fabbed up a bracket that connects to the old baby tooth hole. I think it came out nice, and i didn't have to drill and holes.
I dont have any interior shots but I also got a wink 5 mirror setup installed for my rear view mirror. I created a bracket to push it as far forward as I could, the mirror looks great and give me that extra ensurer that i know i can almost see 360 around the car now.
The big install was the FM frame rails, they took about 4 hours to install and was a huge pain in the ass, but like most painful installs it was worth every penny and time spent. The car feels so much stiffer and overall solid. I would highly recommend this to anyone that doesn't mind drilling 30 or so holes in the floor pan.
Image

Next i got so new XXR from a guy on cl for a good price, they r 15x8 with a 0 offset
found a great black Friday deal on tires at tire rack 300 out the door mounted and balanced for there cheep-o 195/50r15
while i was waiting for the tires to be balanced i scrubbed and power washed the 20 years of dirt off wheel wells
I found no rust and nice looking paint under all that black, I was very happy with the outcome.
Image

so i got my fenders rolled later on sun so i didn't have a chance to get the stance i am looking for but next weekend I'll play with that and then go get a new alignment. but this is how we look as of now...

^^ i know right, i thought it was gonna be black, i was very surprised
the back wells came out even better, its cleaner then my 2011 Subaru now.
I used bug/tar remover and a hard bristle brush from kragens, i think i made up for the extra wheel weight by removing all that dirt..

Due to recent events I decided to remove as much of this build page as possible.
as many of you know my wheels where stolen last week, and although I have no connection between my forum activity and this event, I believe it's safer to be a bit more quiet online with my mod lists and upgrades.
Thanks
