remember when...

Postby maxh2o » Wed Dec 13, 2017 5:43 pm

Remember when people used to post about and have spirited discussions about cars, their passion for cars of various makes and models, the mods they were doing(or not doing), making obscure music, movie and pop culture references and everything else in between?

I miss those days.

I could stop deleting the spam posts so when they bump old stuff, it's something to reminisce about...

My mustang is back in the shop as of yesterday for it's regularly scheduled engine replacement. I'm driving a hybrid Fusion. It makes me feel like a cookie cutter suburbanite.

I am still trying to get my civic smogged. again. Apparently the timing is 10 degrees off, which hopefully explains the lack of power and the very odd smog situation of 8% O2, pass NOx fail HC at 15mph, and fail NOx pass HC at 25mph.

My blue corolla status hasn't changed, still needs an intake to pass smog, after which i'll probably end up selling it to some drift kid in the southbay.

My white corolla hasn't moved in a month or two, I should probably drive it to my parents house soon.

My S2000 runs fine, needs a new battery soon though, still love this thing weirdly even if it is a bit numb to drive.

How is everyone else's car(s) and/or project(s) going?

[My] Corolla is taking up space at a super secret motorsports facility, slowly adding to the list of crap I need to replace on it.

I’ve owned the damn thing 2 months and have done zero good drives in it, may as well not even be mine.

My car projects are basically all at a standstill until I get my housing situation sorted out. I have, however, acquired a pair of Model S headlights that I plan to gut for the projectors, slated to go into the Thunderbird so I can actually see at night.

But I want to work on something, so I've also started gathering stuff to reload ammo. Got this kit on black friday. Probably going to start with .223 for no real reason other than I have some bullets and a bunch of brass, so I need dies and stuff for that.

So a while back, at around 15k miles, it started making a ticking noise at low RPM. Long story short; after about 1 month at the dealership, they found it was a small piece of metal wreaking havoc inside the cylinders and heads. One brand new long block replaced under warranty and 500 miles later, the new engine is making the same noise.

I'm now waiting to hear back from the dealership as to what Detroit wants to do with the car.

Yay, warranties!

Oh, and a little bit ago this happened:

Image

That was not covered under warranty... One 50 mile tow (thanks AAA!!!), a replacement lower and upper ball joint, an axle, a speed sensor, and $1200 later, it's drivable, but I'm terrified to do so until I get the other side replaced as well. I lucked out big time with where that happened. I don't want the other side to give out on the freeway...

I still need to sell the Crown Vic, and the Volvo project is going to be ditched.

Taking the skills progression a bit slower this time too. I'm faster than I've probably ever been now, but I took the time to work on technique more.

Also, being able to afford better equipment helps too...

Change "yesterday" to "Tuesday" and the exact same statement is true again.......

They found a problem... whether it is the problem is yet to be determined. They found that the driver's side exhaust header is warped, and are waiting to get a replacement. Apparently it's a common issue, as it's on nation-wide back-order...

Ford sure makes some nice cars right now, but apparently their materials quality is... lacking?

Seems like the same issues they had back in the late sixties!?
