CL: $2k 2001 F4i (45k miles)

Postby Maxodus » Tue Aug 04, 2009 9:57 pm

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mcy/1298779276.html

... i managed to check it out in person and besides a coolant leak everything else was fixed up really well. Starts right up, new tires and new chain. As a newbie though, i was totally overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the bike. It feels like a lot of bike to me so i couldn't pull the trigger. Anyone else interested?

Meh, probably not a good beginner bike because of it's problems and mileage. I've bought bikes like that when I was in my 20s and something is always off.

You looking for a motorcycle? What kind? I just got my XR running again and went for a ride tonight.

ah good point, i should keep that in mind. Well, to be honest i don't know what bike i want. The look and feel of a sports bike attracts me, but not the sitting position. I have a soft spot for cruisers because it rides low lol. And I came from a family of Vespa, so feeling eventually I'd need to get one too for zipping around SF. ah so lost :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

stan i'd have to counter that. a well used and scraped up bike is perfect for a beginner. the F4i he mentioned is in very healthy condition (with the exception of one heater hose, replaceable). It'd be perfect for him to depend on, drop a few times and its a Honda. So in 6-12 months when he outgrows it, it wont depreciate much and he can sell it for a much nicer bike.

max i wouldn't have passed on that. $2k for a EFI sport bike in healthy condition is hard to come by. the f4i is going to be the shortest less aggressive ride style you'll find too.

Sport bikes are awesome, but the riding position and aggressive power band (especially te I4 600s) makes you want to "spank" them to get them to go. Ride height will matter too depending on your height. Cruisers are nice to ride on, something like a Honda Shadow or a Rebel 450 are good beginner cruisers IMO. I'd also pick a V twin or inline 2 over the inline 4s, generally. Or, a thumper.

Check out the Suzuki SV650, that's what I'd be getting. Or a Ducati Monster. If you are into dual-sport or Super Moto style, the Suzuki DRZ 400s are nice. The new Yamaha WRX 250 Super Moto looks awesome </drool>.

Here is my goat :-)

I think Max was looking for a 2k range used sport bike.

If that's the case, the F4i will suit perfectly, just fix the cooling issue before the engine fries and have fun.

thanks for the pointers Stan, i should try to sit on a Ducati Monster to compare. The f4i is a great deal but i do feel at the end, i'm not comfortable leaning forward that much on a 600cc bike just yet. Perhaps sometime down the road... :bump:

I had an '87 Hurricane (CBR), didn't care for the riding position on it either.

If you haven't done it yet, take the riding class, that may help your decision. Bikes should get cheaper in winter also.

if you think the cbrs have an aggressive riding position, stay away from the 636/gsxr/ducatic9XX, and 600RRs.

Yep. I rode an FZR600, I love those bikes but can't stand the cramped riding position, I don't know how you guys deal with that. My back would kill me after a 30 minute ride. I've ridden my friend's KTM Superduke and even that bike felt cramped, even though it's supposed to be somewhat upright.

F4i is not too bad. I had a 2002 F4i before. You don't have much selection for $2000 budget if you looking for newer sports bike. Are you dead set for 600cc? I am thinking to get new Ninja 250R so I can re-learn how to ride faster on track. But, that's just my thought since I just want something to track and learn how to be a better rider.

FZR600 is not a R6. the FZR is like sitting on a couch.

Wow, you are laying on the tank. Are you resting on your arms?

I grab the tank with my knees and my arms are completely relaxed. Sorry, derailing the thread.

yeah i grab the tank with my knees. different brand have different tanks. i'm fortunate that kawasaki has a taller tank. I've tried ducati 1098 and MV Agusta and they have very flat tanks which i can't do that on.
