Not getting fuel - anyone have a CAS or some sensors laying around?

Postby nitewing117 » Thu Jul 13, 2017 11:13 am

I picked up a 99 with a blown motor (hole through cyl 3 and 4) and just finished swapping in a new bottom end on a 99. I was praying it would fire up right away, but that's not usually how things work for me.. Since it wasn't driveable when I picked it up, I'm not sure on what else may be wrong with it.

The engine turns over right now and has good enough compression - 150, 135, 130, 125. I lapped some pitted valves in cyl 1 which is probably why its higher, but I'm swapping over a low mileage 01 head as soon as I pass smog and get my certificate.

I believe I'm getting spark (saw small flashes when I had the wires connected to a spare set of plugs), but I don't think I'm getting fuel. The plugs are dry when I pull them, so I'm trying to figure out what else to check. I've read that the a bad CAS or crank position sensor would cause this? I'm still reading up on things, but I'm open to any suggestions. Does anyone have a spare sensor laying around so that I can check if mine are dead?

Hi Glenn,

I assume this is with the stock ECU? If so, then IIRC missing cam and crank sensor and it won't fire anything (it's got no idea that the engine is turning). If it's got one but not the other, it should be setting codes -- is the CEL on?

I have spare cam and crank sensors in the parts box in my trailer.

Is the pump running? Does it have fuel pressure?

Hey Ian,

Stock ECU in place. CEL illuminated when I turn the key, but no stored codes. I tried using some carb cleaner in the intake tract and it runs on that, so it's definitely a fuel issue. I'll be checking the pump and relay tomorrow.
