Remind me please - VLSD to Torsen - what needs to be done?

Postby mrFanel » Mon Dec 08, 2014 3:30 pm

Pretty much as title says - if I was to purchase a pre 94' model NA, is a VLSD to Torsen swap pretty much plug and play, or do I need new axles, hubs, etc?

By the hemingway - what about swapping a torsen into an open diff housing?

Wait what?

I should have clarified - swapping a torsen into a 94-97 instead of an open diff... it should be a direct swap, right?

A complete, sealed up differential/housing unit containing a torsen will be a direct swap for a complete, sealed up differential/housing unit containing an open diff, yes. Assembly will be the reverse of removal.

Why don't you just buy a car, then worry about it after? Who knows, maybe, just maybe, you can find a car that already has a torsen in it...

I've been looking for one with a torsen already, but alas - those are hard to come by. It appears I can buy a used torsen full assembly for about $600-800 give or take. Hell, I even found a 3.9 torsen rear end for $800ish!
