FOR THOSE WHO HAD THEIR HARDTOPS STOLEN

Postby Tjoms12 » Sat Feb 13, 2016 4:05 pm

Post some pictures or give details of some notable flaws. I'm going to go check out some sketchy ones this week with a friend and we have reason to believe they are stolen.

I'm curious, what are you going to do if you suspect that the tops he has are stolen? I'm not trying to be a dick, but I doubt the guy is going to admit to steeling them and without incontrovertible proof that he is selling someone's stolen hardtop you won't be able to get the police to investigate. I just don't want to see you guys get hurt or potentially thrown in jail for steeling the tops back.

Maybe even simpler than etching in a vin is to get ultraviolet ink and a stamp and mark it in a bunch of places that only show up under a black light.

We just go and check it out and take pics/mental notes of all of the flaws. If it matches the description we grab the owner and the cops. The owner then shows the police report and the pictures of the top on their car with and flaws visible. Worked a couple weeks ago when we got a guy arrested and a fellow member his hardtop back :)

Color me impressed. Good job, I'm glad the cops actually did something.

The guy that was arrested was initially selling a black hardtop on the Miata parts for sale page on Facebook. The original pic was of my stolen hardtop that was taken about 7 months ago. Every time we asked him for pics of the top, he would send us a picture of a completely different top from the last. Those pictures were some of them. I'll pm you his Facebook.

Also, I searched the number from this ad https://modesto.craigslist.org/pts/5442459247.html. The guy's name is Tyler Powell and he also lives in Modesto (where the other guy lives). These two guys are friends on facebook. He has zero miata related posts or pictures! He sent us pics of a red hardtop and these are its flaws for those of you who are missing one.

Found a lead on more stolen Miata stuff. Please, if you have a missing top try to do something about it! We need to stop these guys. Scroll down for all of the evidence.

Another guy is selling multiple hardtops in San Jose. He sent us pics and we searched his number. His name is Jose Mejia and he is a known hardtop thief. He sent us pics of a merlot and claimed to have a black hardtop as well.

I was looking at the grid sheet for Nik Romano's race that he won (congrats) - see the "I'll just leave this here" thread.

Link to grid sheet - http://www.extremespeedtrackevents.com/images/SOW_Laptimes/Grid_2_2.pdf

Look at the name for someone who qualified 10 and 13 - same Jose Mejia being talked about here?

A red hard top stolen yesterday, could possibly be the one Mr. Mejia is selling?

Had my hardtop stolen recently. All I can describe are paint chips around where the window meets the hardtop and the rubber liner around the window lifting. Only had the car for a month so the only picture I have is the sale ad but i guess its worth a shot. Image

Here's a sorta sketchy craigslist post: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/5596806337.html .It could be someones stolen hardtop that has been painted, although it may be cheap because of the crappy paint job. Just throwing it out there.

I know that guy. His top used to be red and he repainted it white. He's not a thief, just an idiot.
