STOLEN HARDTOP

Postby ba na » Wed Feb 10, 2016 6:10 pm

Hey guys,

I haven't been on here in ages...

Last night my hardtop was stolen in the Sunset District of San Francisco.

Red, headliner, defroster, perfect condition aside from a very thin two inch long scratch just behind the passenger side window opening; the scratch reveal white paint. The top was taken along with Beatrush stainless steel side brackets. The top was secured with two locks, one of each of the rear brackets. The front of the top was secured with spec Miata brackets. They must have really wanted the top.

So, just a heads up, boys and girls, I'll repay your diligence if it helps me track down the hard top. Payment in the form of your choice: a brand new Tougue Run polyurethane air dam or brand new Racing Beat hollow front sway bar (1994-1997) or 300 rounds of Federal Premium 45 ammunition or $100 cash.

Dammit! So sorry about this. Dammit!

One destination for these Bay Area stolen hardtops seems to be the Valley. Try running a CL ad in Sacto/Stockton etc. Arm the Valley Miata owners with info so they can be on the lookout. As I recall, a stolen hardtop and a stolen Miata were recovered that way, along with an arrest made.

Thanks billybobster. A buddy of mine found a listing in Sacramento a couple of hours ago. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pts/5442464292.html
Unfortunately, it's a little far for me to check on it.

I just saw this one pop up on CL but listed as
Dublin/Pleasanton/Livermore
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/5442461884.html

Suspicious that it is being listed in different locations

I hate those thieving bastards!!!

Sorry to hear someone nabbed your top, Snake. I thinking about putting my VIN on mine too. I should have done more than think about it.

Good lookin' out, cxracer.

So far, I've posted a reward on craigslist in SF, Sac, and Dublin. I'll repost the ad in any craigslist bay area where there is a listing for a red hard top matching the description of mine within the next few week or so.

Thanks for your help, guys.

That's right, MidNight. That top was as locked up as it could be. One padlock on each of rear Beatrush stainless steel brackets and spec Miata brackets on both front mounting points. That little car always got the best.

Make certain you lock yours up, bro. At minimum, scribe the last four of your VIN in a discrete location.

sketchy: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/5444037466.html

I emailed this same guy about an emerald green hardtop last week.
He was super hard to get ahold of via text (he really didnt want to give out his phone number) and took a long time to send me pictures of the actual hardtop rather than the pics he stole from elsewhere on the internet.

The picture in the ad is stolen from this thread: http://www.miataturbo.net/miata-parts-s ... etc-64666/

If you're on the west side of SF, you may be noticing a dramatic increase in all crime, not just Miata hardtops. My wife's car got broken into last night, in December I saw burglars escaping from a neighbor's house, plus there have been other crimes just on our block.

Paul Barbagelata of Barbagelata Realty has started a petition about the crime wave happening in and around the West Portal area.

Here’s a link to it - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/148/397/148/stop-the-west-portal-neighborhood-crime-wave/

Please sign it, maybe at the very local level this might make Mayor Ed Lee and our Supervisor Norman Yee realize there are people out on this side of the city.

This really sucks! I always worry about parking down in the sunset cause of all the hardtop thefts I hear about...

How do people put their vin on the hardtop? do you engrave it? where? I have an aftermarket top.

I'm thinking I should just write "worse than an OEM hard top" on a blank bumper sticker and just slap it on the top. I would bolt it in permanently but for the fact that my lady loves top down driving.
happiness is a warm miata. . .

94c package, black and tan w/ stripes.
