Grandma's 2.5RS

Postby Douche Bag Boy » Wed Oct 26, 2016 1:55 pm

Hey y'all,

My grandma up in the Seattle area is getting rid of her 1998 2.5RS w/ only ~21k miles, blue with the gold wheels. It's an auto.

Dealer is offering ~$2.5k.

I don't think it has a meticulously kept service record, but I'm thinking it could easily go for ~$5k on CL.

Anybody have experience with these cars that can suggest a listing price?

Also, for the folks who have moved up to WA, any interest...?

Sounds ripe for a turbo/manual swap! 2- or 4-door?

Hey Kevin, I don't know what they're worth but I know someone who definitely would. Jamie is a friend of mine on FB who not only works with Subaru's but is a fairly fanatic enthusiast as well. I'd imagine she could give you a pretty good idea of actual street prices locally here but probably knows someone who'd be interested.

It's been a couple years since I've been up there, so I may be mis-remembering, but I believe it is a coupe.

For that condition, this should easily sell for 6k+ here in the Bay Area - prices may differ in the Northwest though since Subarus seem to be everywhere on their local CL. Even though I just got a forester, I'm tempted to buy it for myself...

BIG bucks for those RS's. Don't go the stealership way. Try posting on 2.5RS forum. ALso on IClub on the NorCal classifieds.
RS's are not a dime a dozen like WRX's so their value is still up there in spite of their age.
It's a coupe as there were no 4-door RS's. At least here in the US.

I've definitely seen a few 2000-2001 4 door RS's here in the states, unless every single one I've seen is a replica. A few of the norcal rally-x folks that I've spoken to prefer the 4-door version over the 2-door since they can still throw a set of wheels in the car after getting a rally cage.

Wow, then I've never seen a 4-door RS before in all my Subaru years! Must be even rarer than a coupe.

I don't know the stats, but they are definitely out there. Seen 'em in person and for sale online.
